The two people behind Meiepere goldens are Karis, and her daughter Maria. Karis loves working her dogs. She would always choose a gundog training session over a dog show, and thanks to her, all our dogs are familiar with game and are regularly being trained for breed tests. All our litters are born and raised in Karis' house in rural Estonia, just outside a small town called Põlva, on the banks of river Ahja.

 

Karis' daughter Maria is based in London, UK, where she has started training to become a judge, currently judging goldens at open show level. Unlike Karis, Maria loves attending shows both with and without her dogs, and so regularly visits shows all across Europe. She can also always be found hovering around the golden retrievers' ring at Crufts with her camera.

 

Our aim is to breed wholesome, balanced, healthy golden retrievers with the appropriate temperament, breed type and ability to work. The key word for us is 'balance', as we try not to overly focus on one aspect without forgetting the importance of the dog as a whole. Gundog training is important to us for many reasons, but all in all we believe that a dog that works well also has all the attributes a good pet needs - intelligence, working ability, biddability, flexibility, confidence, ability to retrieve (let's be honest, who doesn't like a pair of slippers, a newspaper, or a slimy chewed up toy brought to their bed in the morning :)), and so essential to preserving the golden temperament of the breed we all know and love. All the dogs we use in breeding have been health tested, but when making our breeding choices, we additionally take into account health aspects and issues that can't yet be tested for, since as mentioned previously, our main focus and aim is to breed happy and healthy dogs who live long, wholesome and active lives. We value breed type and balance in the conformation of our dogs, and prefer our goldens looking like goldens whilst moving effortlessly and as if they could easily do a day's work.

Meie kennelis tegutsevad koos Karis ja tema tütar Maria. Karisele on südamelähedane just koertega tõupärase töö tegemine. Igal juhul eelistab ta töötamist koertega metsas näituseringis jooksmisele. Tänu sellele on kõik meie koerad tutvunud ka saagiga, ning treenivad regulaarselt tõukatseteks. Meie kutsikad kasvavad üles Karise juures - looduskaunis maakohas Valgesoo külas, Põlvamaal, kus Karis tegeleb ka näituse- ja tõukatsetrennide, trimmimise ning koertehoiuga.

 

Karise tütar Maria elab Londonis, Suurbritannias, kus alustas kohtunikuna kuldsete hindamist näitustel. Lisaks naudib ta ka näitustel osalemist ning seega reisib tihti koertega (või vahest ka ilma) näitustele üle Euroopa. Näiteks iga kevad võib Mariat leida maailma suurimalt koertenäituselt Crufts'ilt - mõnikord koeraga ringist, kuid tihtipeale hoopis kaameraga ringi äärest.

 

Aretadest kuldseid peame me oluliseks koera kui tervikut, sealhulgas iseloomu, töövõimet, tervist, välimikku ja tõutüüpi. Kuldsete töövõime säilitamine on meie jaoks väga oluline just kuna need iseloomuomadused, mis on teevad kuldsest hea töökoera, on olulised ka heal kodukoeral - intelligentsus, töötahe, soov inimesele meeldida, sõbralikkus, paindlikkus, enesekindlus, asjade suus kandmine (sest olgem ausad, kes meist siis ei sooviks, et meile hommikul voodisse susse, ajalehti või mänguasju ei toodaks :)) ning seega teevad kuldsest just sellise kuldse, nagu me teda teame ja armastame. Kõigil meie aretuskoertel on tehtud kõik soovituslikud terviseuuringud, kuid aretuses võtame arvesse ka terviseprobleeme, mille jaoks veel vastavaid uuringud ei ole - jällegi keskendume tervikule, soovime aretada koeri, kes on elurõõmsad ja aktiivsed kõrge eani välja. Välimikus peame oluliseks tõutüüpi ning tasakaalus konstruktsiooni, kuldseid kuldse välimusega, kes liiguvad nii, et vajadusel jõuaksid ilma probleemideta terve päeva töötada. Samade näitajate põhjal valime ka isaseid, keda aretuses kasutame, tehes ära võimalikult põhjaliku eeltöö aretuspaaride omavahelisel kokkusobivusel.

The affix Meiepere (meaning "our family" in Estonian) was founded by Karis in 1991, after she'd been active in the dog world for a while before - as a dog trainer, show organiser and a founding member of the Võru canine society. Although we'd had several purebred dogs in our family previously, when our first golden retriever Ska (Ch Springisland Uanigi Ska) arrived in 2002, we never thought of getting another breed again. We were completely taken by this wonderful breed and its' most biddable, intelligent and gentle nature.

 

As goldens were a relatively new breed in Estonia back then, with the first imported in 1996 and the very first golden litter born in only 1998, we chose to look further for the sire of our first litter of goldens, and decided to go with the lovely UK show champion Pharoah (Ch Pacimini Simply Top Honours) as the stud. From this litter born in 2004, we kept Nicky (Ch Meiepere Charming Unique), and two years later brought in Evita (Ch Magica Emi de Ria Vela) from Spain, whose daughter Bonnie (Meiepere Footprints In The Sand) stayed with us as well. These two bitches - Nicky and Bonnie - are our foundation bitches, and all our currently bred dogs go back to either of those two.

 

In 2012, after thorough research, we bought our first male - Pippin (Ch Linirgor Pied Piper at Meiepere), who came to us from Scotland, Linsey & Irene Dunbar's renowned kennel Linirgor. Pippin has, time and time again, exceeded all our expectations! Not only does he have the loveliest temperament, excellent working ability and health, he has also been incredibly successful in the show scene. At only two years old he won 3 BOBs at 3 consecutive championship shows and became a UK show champion, something that we hadn't even dared to dream of! We are infinitely grateful to Pippin's breeders, for letting us have our "once in a lifetime" boy, he is an absolute dream. We are also very pleased with what he has produced so far, with his offspring being shown successfully all across the world. A few of his progeny have stayed with us, including his promising son Patrick (Tamniarn Johnny Jump Up to Meiepere) who's come to us from Shauna McGroarty in Northern Ireland.

Kennel Meiepere sai loodud aastal 1991 Karise poolt, olles olnud koertemaailmas tegev juba pikalt - nii treeneri, näituste korraldaja kui ka Võru koerteklubi asutajaliikmena. Kuigi tõukoeri oli meie peres olnud päris mitmeid, võitsid kuldsed retriiverid meie kõigi südamed hetkega, kui aastal 2002 tuli meie perre Ska (Ch Springisland Uanigi Ska). Sõbralikkus, intelligentsus ja koostööaldis iseloom on vaid mõned põhjustest, miks ei kujuta enam ette elu ühegi teise tõuga.

 

Kuldsed olid toona Eestis väga uus tõug, esimene imporditi Eestisse vaid aastal 1996 ja esimene pesakond sündis 1998, kust oli pärit ka Ska ema (Ch Stanhope Sheila), seega otsustasime oma esimese kuldsete pesakonna isaks valida isase hoopiski veidi kaugemalt - kauni Pharoah'i (Ch Pacimini Simply Top Honours) tõu kodumaalt Suurbritanniast. 2004 aastal sündinud pesakonnast jätkasime aretust Nicky'ga (Ch Meiepere Charming Unique), 2006 aastal lisandus Hispaaniast ka Evita (Ch Magica Emi de Ria Vela), kelle tütar Bonnie (Meiepere Footprints In The Sand) jäi meile samuti koju kasvama. Nicky ja Bonnie on kogu meie aretuse alusemased, ja kõigi meie kasvatatud koerte sugupuud lähevad tagasi üheni neist.

 

Pärast põhjalikku uurimistööd ja otsimist, tuli aastal 2012 meie perre meie esimene isane kuldne retriiver - Pippin (Ch Linirgor Pied Piper at Meiepere) Šotimaalt, Linsey & Irene Dunbari tunnustatud kennelist Linirgor. Pippin on ületanud kõik meie ootused, olles mitte ainult suurepärase iseloomu, tööomaduste ja tervisega, vaid ka väga edukas näitustel. Pippini saavutuste hulka kuuluvad mitmed tšempionitiitlid ja erinäituste võidud, kuid kõige uskumatum oli tema vaid kahe-aastasena võidetud Suurbritannia tšempionitiitel. See on tiitel, millest me veel unistadagi ei julgenud - tõu kodumaa konkurentsis saavutavad selle vaid väga vähesed, ning Eestis on Pippin selle tiitliga ainuke kuldne. Oleme tõesti ülimalt tänulikud Pippini kasvatajatele, et nad ta meile on usaldanud.
Lisaks on Pippin olnud väga edukas aretusisane, tema kutsikaid võib leida nii üle Euroopa, kui ka väljaspoolt. Ka meie enda kodus kasvavad mitmed Pippini lapsed, kaasaarvatud tema poeg Patrick (Tamniarn Johnny Jump Up to Meiepere), kes on meile tulnud Põhja-Iirimaalt, kasvatajalt Shauna McGroarty.
